LinkedIn gives teens the opportunity to meet industry professionals👩💼👨💼, and in this blog post I want to help you all form valuable connections with people that interest and inspire you! Through my LinkedIn, I have met many executives🤝, learnt from them👩🏫, and as a result of relationships I have made and maintained, created numerous work experience opportunities for myself.
The truth is, doing this is not very hard! You do not need to be a rocket🚀 scientist, and in this blog post I have broken down my process into three steps.
Step 1: Create a Top Notch LinkedIn Account
Before you can start growing your network, you need a high quality LinkedIn profile! You can check out our previous blog post where Cherry shared some useful tips and tricks to setting up your account and making it stand out, so make sure you check that out before moving on.
Step 2: Connect with the RIGHT People
Whilst it might be daunting to message a stranger, professionals will be very impressed with your initiative to get in contact. Connect with people whose careers interest you, or even better, who have your dream job! When contacting someone, make sure you have a purpose, i.e to learn more about a specific field. Here are a few examples of messages📧 I have sent:
Example A:
Dear Mr [surname],
My name is Chloe McCormick, I'm 15 years old, and I love math! My ultimate career goal is to work at [company] in Financial Technologies or Algorithmic Trading. I would love to chat about the Financial Technology Sector, and your experiences working in corporate advisory.
Example B:
Dear Ms [surname],
My name is Chloe, I'm 14, and I have become an avid teen investor. I came across your company, [company], and have been so inspired that I have now decided to learn AI and its applications in trading. [company] is such an innovative company, and I look forward to seeing it grow even more successful.

Step 3: Translate Connection to Relationship
Whilst you won’t get a response from every person you contact, when you do get a connection, make sure to continue conversing via the LinkedIn chat section (the networking doesn’t stop after getting a connection!). The goal is to build rapport and then ask to have a zoom or get their personal email so you are able to converse “in the real world”. It is now really up to you where you take the relationship. If you put time and effort into getting to know the person and make your intentions explicit, you could see many opportunities come your way including internships and work experience!
If you would like to get in contact or ask for more detailed and specific guidance, make sure to connect with me on LinkedIn (Chloe’s LinkedIn)!
I hope this blog post aids you in your endeavours. Make sure to comment below or message me (on LinkedIn) the outcomes of your LinkedIn Executive Networking!
